Great episode. The best one yet I think. Now I just need to know how to put three operating systems on a computer and my tech life would be great 🙂
Thanks for all your hard work
Comment on February 27, 2011 12:38 amOh, there will be operating systems! Thanks for watching.
Comment on February 27, 2011 02:40 amGreat job, Marco and Iyaz!
This was a really interesting episode. I’ve wanted to build a PC for myself for the last few years, but didn’t know where to get started. This is an awesome inspiration for me to build a new PC. As soon as I get the funds, I’ll be watching this episode again!
Keep up the great work!
(PS, more HotHardware this Old Nerd partnerships would be so cool!)
Comment on February 27, 2011 06:23 pmGreat show! I didn’t know the io shield was called that, and I’ve been building computers for more than 20 years! I love that case! But bet its expensive. Links for the hardware would be great, granted I haven’t checked out The Store [insert fanfare here] yet, but links in the show notes would be fantastic. Looking forward to future episodes. Love the show.

P.S. when I click the “Post as…” button, the popup partially hides behind the video in Chrome. I found it interesting 🙂
I need to add links to all the hardware. Good idea!
I’ve run into trouble with things hiding behind the video, too. When I get time, I’ll try to figure out a fix.
Thanks for watching, MissM
Comment on February 28, 2011 02:07 pmGreat video! I definitely learned some things I’ll be sure to use the next time I build a computer (I just built my first about a month ago). A few other tips I’ve found helpful along the way:
* You might want to hook everything up loosely before you put it in the case just to make sure you’ve got everything in the right place. I found I didn’t have the processor heatsink seated correctly the first time and was overheating. If I had done a test boot earlier, I wouldn’t have had to unscrew the entire motherboard to fix it.
* With my case (Thermaltake V4) it was easier to put the PSU in before the motherboard, but I’m sure this varies from case to case.
* Take your time. Everything’s labeled so it’s just a matter of making sure you’ve put the right things where they fit.
Comment on March 2, 2011 03:46 amGreat advice – we did actually fit things in the PC before installing components, it just got cut from the final episode. I was surprised that everything was labeled so clearly. Building a PC is simply a matter of reading and attaching connectors and very satisfying.
Thanks for watching
Comment on March 2, 2011 10:07 amWhere can I find the parts list for pc build in this video?
Comment on March 2, 2011 01:54 pmYes, I am interested in the list as well. Any update on this yet?
Comment on March 13, 2011 03:18 amWe’ll get you the parts list as soon as we can. We’ve got big changes coming up – a move to California which is taking priority over this right now. Please hang tight and thanks for watching!
Comment on March 14, 2011 12:10 amGreat show, it inspired me. You mentioned budget in the show, but you never said how much that PC would be, Can we get a price list with the parts list?]
Thanks

Comment on March 4, 2011 03:46 amThis episode actually shows parts to build a Hackintosh. We’ll put up a parts list this weekend and we’ll install an OS or two on a future episode. Thanks for watching!
